Pairing your curtains and blinds - for maximum winter warmth
Many people have both a curtain and blind on the same window to achieve the best of insulation and light and privacy control during both day and night-time There are many combinations that you can choose but ultimately the pairings will either be a sheer or light filtering curtain with a blockout blind, or blockout curtains with a light filter or sunscreen blind.

What's best for a cosy winter?
If there are many combinations when it comes to blinds and curtains, here are our recommendations for maximum winter warmth.
Thermal blinds x curtains
Thermal blinds are a type of blind with a thermal or blockout coating added to the fabric. This is the reason why this applies to the roller and roman ranges only.
The thermal coating is used on roller blinds, while the blockout coating is specific to roman blinds. Both give you extra insulation and help darken your room for a better night’s sleep.

Roman blind, meet curtains
Roman blinds are an excellent choice, especially when they have a thermal lining added. Due to their design, they cover the full window without any gaps around the edges, leaving little room for heat to escape. You can choose from a range of fabrics to suit your style and mix colours and patterns by adding curtains. This combination is also a good way to keep the warmth inside, with beautiful velvet curtains for example.
Keep in mind, roman blinds need to fit snuggly against the wall to keep cold air from leaking through.
Team up roller blinds with curtains
Roller blinds are a popular option for their affordability, but if you want good insulation, you need to choose carefully. Your best option is a specific thermal roller blind with a thermal backing already applied.
Also consider a back roll as it is a better choice if you’re aiming for increased insulation – it means the blind is closer to the window, creating a better barrier against cold air.
But combining your roller blind with the thickeness of velvet curtains or thermal curtains is also a great way to keep this warmth inside, and stay cosy during winter.
