We all know the world has a massive problem with single use plastics ending up in landfill or polluting the ocean. One way we can help improve this situation is by choosing products made from recycled materials. Our eco range of curtains and roman blinds are made from environmentally friendly fabrics that are made from recycled bottles. These fabrics range from 100% recycled polyester to a blend of recycled materials, with some using up to an incredible 30 plastic bottles per metre!

But with lots of products out there claiming to be less harmful to the environment and people’s wellbeing, how do you know which ones are the real - more sustainable - deal? We’re pleased to say, our eco range have passed rigorous testing standards to earn the following certifications:

Global Recycled Standard

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is a voluntary product standard for tracking and verifying the content of recycled materials in a final product. The standard applies to the full supply chain and addresses traceability, environmental principles, social requirements, chemical content and labelling. Having this standard means the recycled content of our eco curtains and blinds has been checked and proven, as have the responsible social, environmental and chemical practices used in the fabric’s production. OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100

OEKO-TEX® standards enable you to make responsible decisions and protect natural resources. Driven by sustainability and a dedication to transparency, OEKO-TEX®’s work is grounded in proven science. OEKO-TEX® consists of 17 independent textile and leather testing institutes in Europe and Japan. They were founded in 1992 with the aim of using laboratory tests to ensure textile products are harmless to human health. This led to the development of the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, now the world's best-known and most trusted certification for product safety. This is the standard that our sustainable, environmentally friendly eco range holds.
OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 means these textiles have been tested for over 1000 harmful substances and certified as having passed safety tests. They are non toxic. OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 uses globally standardised test criteria and the certification complies with international requirements and regulations. Learn more about it HERE.

How are plastic bottles made into curtains?

It starts at a recycling plant where plastic bottles saved from landfill are cleaned, sorted and shredded. After they’ve been melted down, the plastic cools to form flakes. These are then re-melted to form a flowing yarn that is woven into fabrics. These fabrics then come to us at Bargain Blinds and Curtains where we turn them into quality curtains and roman blinds.

Why choose our eco friendly range?

  • The more sustainable curtain and blind option

  • Helps reduce plastics in landfill and oceans

  • Non-toxic and chemical-free

  • Soft feel and flowy drape

One final thought…what about chemical emissions?

The majority of everyday chemical exposure in people occurs through the air we breathe in our homes and other indoor environments. These airborne chemicals are commonly referred to as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and they’re used to manufacture and maintain building materials, interior furnishings, cleaning products and personal care products. VOCs are common in indoor environments with anywhere from 50 to hundreds of them circulating through indoor air at any time. Many VOCs are irritants and long-term exposure to certain VOCs may lead to chronic diseases.

If this is a concern for you, look for products that have the UL GREENGUARD Certification, like our range of roller blinds. UL GREENGUARD Certification helps demonstrate compliance with chemical emission standards and our commitment to healthier indoor environments. It means the material we use to make our roller blinds has undergone rigorous scientific testing to meet stringent chemical emissions requirements; they have the UL GREENGUARD Certification proving they don’t have hidden impacts on health.’

UL Solutions GREENGUARD Certification is the No. 1 testing programme for products built to contribute to cleaner, healthier indoor air. Learn more about it HERE.
