How to install motorised curtain tracks

Use our step-by-step guide to install your new motorised curtain track like a pro.

What you need

  • Pencil Pencil
  • Tape measure Tape measure
  • Phillips screwdriver (track only) Phillips screwdriver (track only)
  • Power drill with a 3mm drill bit Power drill with a 3mm drill bit
  • #2 square drive #2 square drive
  1. Getting started

Being careful not to damage the track or rod, remove the packaging and check that the following parts are included:

    • Curtain track
    • Wall brackets + 2 screws per bracket (number of brackets depends on the length of the track or rod)
    • Bracket covers
    • Glides attached to track or rod
    • Motor
    • External rechargeable lithium battery
  2. Step 1

Find the position you originally measured from when ordering your curtains. Remember the top of your curtains should sit 5mm higher than the top of your track (a).

  3. Step 2

Ideally, if available, fix your first and last brackets into wooden studs behind the wall lining (plasterboard) within the first 250mm of the ends of the track (b).

If there is no wood within the first 250mm of track, use wall plugs and place the first and last brackets within 100mm of the ends of the track or rod.

Space the remaining brackets evenly between the first two, no more than 700mm apart.

    Tip

Use a stud finder to find wooden studs.

  4. Step 3

Secure the top fix spring fit brackets to the wall brackets using the supplied screw and washer (a). Insert the screw from underneath the bracket and tighten upwards through the washer to hold the top fix bracket firmly in place (b).

  5. Step 4

Attach the track to the brackets by holding it at an angle and inserting the front spring catch into the bracket. Push the track backwards.

  6. Step 5

Align the back catch into the back of the track. Allow the track to spring into place until it clicks securely.

  7. Step 6

Align the top and bottom sections of the motor using the locating pin and press the two parts together firmly.

  8. Step 7

Slide the locking pin to the right to secure the motor. To release, pull the pin down and slide it to the left.

  9. Motor and battery

Choose an easy-to-reach spot for the battery, ensuring it is close enough for the motor cable to connect.
