What you will need:

A steel tape measure that read in millimetres (mm).

  1. Steel is more accurate than other types.
  2. Pencil or pen
  3. Measuring sheet

There are two ways to fit your blind, Inside Fit or Outside Fit. Where possible we suggest an inside fit as it keeps the blind closer to the glass offering better insulation and a more contemporary look.

Make sure there are no obstructions like latches or door handles where the blind is to be positioned that may get in the way when operated. If fitting inside the window, here is a handy guide to estimate how much depth your new blind will take up in the sill.

Roller blind - 70mm
Aluminium Venetian – 40mm depth
Wooden Venetian - 80mm (this includes the fascia)
Faux Wood Venetian - 80mm (this includes the fascia)

Deductions

Venetians - we make a deduction off the bottom to allow the bottom rail to tilt freely without hitting the sill:

  • Wood & Wood Look - 10mm
  • Aluminium - 5mm

Measuring for an Inside Fit

Width
We suggest taking three measurements in three locations within the frame as some windows may not be square
- One across the top inside the window frame
- One across the middle inside the window frame
- One across the bottom inside the window frame
Always supply us with the smallest measurement of the three. Remember to measure to the nearest millimetre.

Drop
Also measure the drop in three places:
- One on the left inside the window frame
- One in the middle inside the window frame
- One on the right inside the window frame
Always supply us with the smallest measurement of the three. Remember to measure to the nearest millimetre.

Measuring for an Outside Fit

Width
We suggest taking the width measurement at the top of the frame where the brackets are going to be placed. Many people measure from the outside of the architrave on one side to the outside of the architrave on the opposite side to get their width measurement.

Remember to measure to the nearest millimetre.

Drop
If measuring to a window sill, we suggest measuring from the outside of the architrave on the top of the window down to the window sill in three different places. Always supply us with the shortest measurement of the three. If measuring to below the window, we suggest measuring from the outside of the architrave on the top of the window down to where you want the blind to stop.
